Ilias Lalaounis gives his name to one of the only jewelry museums in the world. There, you can see all of his jewelry collections, one by one and in chronological order! The museum also hosts temporary exhibitions of contemporary jewelry making. It is really close to the Acropolis, and definitely worth checking out! But... who was Ilias Lalaounis, you might ask?
He was a really famous Greek jewelry maker and goldsmith, born in Athens in 1920. His work was first and mostly by Ancient Greek culture and art. During his career, he experimented a lot — he designed over-the-top jewelry for theater and dance presentations, dressed important stars such as Liz Taylor and was always seeking different sources of inspiration, as you can see below! The Museum is incredible and full of amazing works by him — check it out if you're ever in Athens!
