The Temple of Athena Nike sits at the top of the gates to the Acropolis. It's a small temple with a great history — Ancient writings describe the existence there of a wingless Athena Nike statue. One of the writers explains this by saying that the Athenians had taken off Athena's wings so that she — goddess of Victory! — would never again leave the city-state.
