Venetian attack

During the Great Turkish War, the Ottomans turned the Parthenon into gunpowder storage. So, on September 26, 1687, during battle, when the Venetian general Francesco Morosini launched an attack against the Parthenon, it caused the entire building to explode, bringing down the cella, destroying much of the frieze and damaging the columns.
