On April 10, 2019, a Special European Council was held to decide over Theresa May's request for an extension of the Brexit deadline, which had been previously set on March 29, 2019 (exactly 2 years after she had triggered Article 50, as the rules demand). She had asked for an extension to June 30, but the European leaders voted and decided to set the new deadline on October 31, 2019.
