At this point, Canadian women in Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Alberta, British Columbia and Ontario had the right to vote in their province. On September 20, 1917, during the First World War, the federal vote was extended to include women in the military and female relatives of men in the military. At the same time, it excluded citizens born in enemy nations and conscientious objectors, even if they were citizens of the provinces where the vote was already a reality.
